Here’s what I’ve Learned Having Conversaitons at The Dinner Table.

14 min readNov 9, 2024

Political conversations are a cornerstone of human interaction. They shape our understanding of the world, reflect our values, and reveal the lenses through which we view society. Growing up, I found myself frequently engaged in debates and discussions about politics — often with people who held views vastly different from my own. Over time, these experiences taught me invaluable lessons about communication, empathy, and the complexities of political discourse.

Here are some of the key takeaways I’ve learned from political conversations in my younger years:

0. Everybody is pollical

Politics is often thought of as something that happens in formal institutions — government offices, legislative halls, political parties, and the media. However, if we look closely, we can see that politics is everywhere — in the conversations we have, the way we relate to each other, and the systems we engage with every day. Whether we’re children playing games, teens navigating social media, students in classrooms, athletes on sports teams, or even caught up in relationship drama, we are all political in our own ways.
