Objective: Students will develop skills in career planning and long-term thinking by analyzing a fictional case study of a student-athlete. They will learn how to set career goals, plan steps to achieve those goals, and consider long-term implications of their career choices.

  • Projector or Smartboard
  • Handouts with fictional case study
  • Career planning worksheet
  • Sticky notes
  • Laptop/Tablet with internet access (for research)
  • Chart paper and markers

Lesson Outline

1. Introduction (10 minutes)

  • Warm-Up Discussion: Ask students about their career aspirations and what factors they think are important in planning a career. Discuss the role of long-term thinking in career planning.
  • Objective Overview: Explain that the lesson will focus on understanding how to plan for a career and think long-term using a fictional case study of a student-athlete.

2. Presentation of the Fictional Case Study (15 minutes)

  • Case Study: Distribute handouts with the following fictional case study:
