Mastering the Art of LinkedIn Connections: How to Build Authentic Relationships Online
In today’s professional world, LinkedIn has become the go-to platform for networking. But building meaningful relationships requires more than just sending out connection requests blindly. If you approach LinkedIn as a genuine relationship-building tool rather than a numbers game, you can open doors to incredible opportunities. Here’s my thought process on how to send out LinkedIn connections with intention and authenticity.
- Clarify Your Intent
Before hitting that “Connect” button, ask yourself: Why do I want to connect with this person?
LinkedIn is not a popularity contest, and just having a large network for the sake of it won’t benefit you in the long run. Be intentional about the relationships you’re cultivating. Whether it’s for career growth, mentorship, collaboration, or simply learning from someone’s experiences, having a clear purpose behind each connection allows for more meaningful conversations.
For example, if I come across someone in product management – a field I’m deeply passionate about – I reflect on what I can learn from their journey or how I can provide value to their network. Approaching the connection from a place of curiosity and mutual growth sets the tone for a lasting relationship.
